Further south, the itinerary visits Aljoun's castle and takes a hike through the surrounding forests. Plenty of time is allocated for trekking in the Dana Biosphere Reserve, a chance to enjoy sparse villages and wild scenery. Then comes the desert highlight: a 4x4 excursion into Wadi Rum, with an overnight in a Bedouin camp where stargazing is almost compulsory.

The route winds down with a visit to Petra via a less-trafficked back route beginning at Little Petra. A guided walk of the archaeological site itself follows, before the tour ends with a dip in the mineral-rich Dead Sea. Throughout, local guides and a G Adventures CEO accompany small groups averaging eight fellow travellers.
