Moving south, the itinerary takes in Madaba’s well-preserved mosaics and Mt Nebo, from where tradition says Moses first glimpsed the Promised Land. Petra requires no introduction, with its rose-red rock façades carved into sandstone cliffs. Following this, the desert of Wadi Rum offers rugged scenery best explored in 4x4 vehicles, overnighting beneath the stars at a Bedouin camp. Finally, a few days by the Red Sea in Aqaba and a float in the saline Dead Sea allow for quieter moments after the sightseeing.

Travel is in a shared minivan and 4x4s, with a mix of hotel and desert camp accommodation. The solo travel-friendly arrangement means guests share twin rooms and meet fellow travellers without a single supplement to contend with.
