About the trip

This nine-night safari from G Adventures traces a route through some of southern Africa's well-protected wildlife havens. Starting in Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park, the holiday includes game drives from open vehicles where lions patrol the tall grasses and elephants linger near waterholes.

From there a flight takes you to Botswana's Okavango Delta. This vast inland delta brings a chance to explore on foot and by mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe, guided by local experts who know the shifting channels and wildlife signs. The trip ends with boat cruises along Botswana's Chobe River, where herds of elephants commonly appear to drink and hippos can be seen submerged in the shallows.

Meals are partly included, giving some freedom to choose where and what to eat. The group size is small, usually around ten travellers, led throughout by a National Geographic Expedition Leader. Lodging is mostly safari lodges with one night in a hotel. Travel between destinations includes light aircraft and 4x4 vehicles, adapted to the remote terrain.
