Leaving the forests behind, the holiday moves on to the temples of Khajuraho, famed for their medieval sculptures, before travelling via Orchha to Agra. In Agra, the 16th and 17th-century Mughal sites include the massive Agra Fort and, best of all, the Taj Mahal at sunrise. Mehtab Bagh offers a quiet riverside viewpoint away from the crowds.

The pace is varied but mostly steady, with plenty of time to appreciate each place rather than ticking boxes. The occasional early start is balanced by free afternoons and easy evenings. It’s a route that threads between cities, parks and history with a welcome eye for details often overlooked — like the evening stargazing in Bandhavgarh.
