Bali's Wild Heart: Soul, Surf & Spirit

This eight-night G Adventures small group trip takes you beyond the usual tourist trail in Bali. After settling in, there’s a two-hour surf lesson in Canggu, where the waves roll in steadily enough for beginners and the local surf coaches keep things approachable. Later, the pace shifts to early starts – notably a midnight hike up Mount Batur for sunrise. It’s worth the bleary-eyed effort, with panoramic views from the rim before a dip in volcanic hot springs.

The journey includes a couple of nights in Bulian village, where you cycle past rice paddies, join shared meals, and see daily life up close, including a community women’s project. Between these, there’s free time in Ubud to visit temples, waterfalls and cafés at your own speed, allowing space to appreciate the more introspective side of the island. Accommodation varies from hostels and campsites to simple guesthouses, mostly with shared facilities – no pretence here, just practical and local.

Transport between spots is organised but unhurried, and you’ll have chances to connect with fellow travellers over a big night out in Ubud or morning rituals in the village. The itinerary is lively and varied, offering a hands-on slice of Bali’s different rhythms.
