Two days in Kathmandu’s cultural centre
G Adventures leads a small group through some of China and Tibet’s most notable sights, beginning in Beijing with its broad Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City’s vast courtyard. The Great Wall beckons outside the city to the north, alongside a stroll through Beijing’s traditional hutongs.
The route continues to Xi’an, where the Terracotta Warriors stand in silent rows and the Muslim Quarters offer different flavours from China’s usual streets. From here, travellers head west onto Tibet’s high plateau. Lhasa unfolds with its mix of ancient monasteries, the Potala Palace and the lively Barkhor Square. At altitude, the journey shifts from cities to rougher terrain, including a night in a yak hair tent within sight of Everest’s northern face.
Crossing into Nepal, the tour ends with two days in Kathmandu, itself a cluster of temples, squares and streets that spill history and daily life in equal measure. This is a trip that combines some of Asia’s largest cities and sweeping alpine landscapes, with a pace that allows time to adjust to altitude and appreciate local traditions in monasteries and markets.
