About the trip
This escorted tour from G Adventures takes you across Bhutan’s high valleys and mountain passes at a gentle pace. Starting in Thimphu, the capital, you’ll cross Dochula Pass and sample its 108 chortens before a stroll to the colourful Chimi Lhakhang temple, set among rice fields.
The journey then heads west into the remote Haa Valley, where village walks and a hands-on Hoenty dumpling cooking class offer insight into a quieter Bhutanese life far from the main tourist routes. There are also options for either a cultural immersion and hike up Juney Drak or a panorama hike around Haa itself. A drive over the high Chele La Pass leads to visits to the cliffside Kila Nunnery and Tara Monastery.
The final highlight is the renowned trek to Tiger’s Nest monastery (Taktsang), perched on a cliff above the Paro Valley. It’s a steady climb but rewarded with a hot stone bath to ease tired muscles afterwards. Meals are included throughout, and all drives use private vehicles, though the roads twist and turn enough to require a dose of patience for anyone prone to travel sickness.
