About the trip

This six-night tour by G Adventures takes you across Sumatra’s diverse landscapes and cultures. Starting in Medan, the island’s largest city, you visit landmarks like the Grand Mosque and Vihara Gunung Timur before heading into the jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park, where long walks might bring sightings of the elusive Sumatran orangutan.

The route then leads north to Berastagi, where steamy hot springs offer a chance to unwind after trekking. Another highlight is Lake Toba, the world’s largest volcanic lake, with a visit to Samosir Island and its indigenous Batak villages. Along the way, a river tubing ride and a cooking class provide outings that are as lively as the landscape is varied.
