About the trip

This 14-night small-group tour by G Adventures criss-crosses Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa aboard a custom-built overland adventure vehicle. Beginning in Johannesburg, the trip includes an immersive encounter with the thundering Victoria Falls and a canoe journey by traditional mokoro through the Okavango Delta, camping overnight beneath the African stars.

The route also takes in Mapungubwe National Park with its resident wildlife viewed from an open safari vehicle, followed by guided bush walks in Mapesu Private Reserve and the chance to track the 'big five' across Kruger National Park. The camping style of travel requires participation, setting up tents with insect nets and making camp meals a group effort. Despite stretches on bumpy roads, the variety of landscapes and close encounters with wildlife offer a genuine taste of Southern Africa’s natural heritage.

Accommodation alternates simple hotels in the cities with open-air campsites, some enclosed and others more exposed to the wilderness. Throughout, two Chief Experience Officers lead the journey, managing everything from meals to local contacts. It’s a travelling rhythm that balances a hands-on approach with the wide-open spaces of the bush.
