Walk the Great Wall of China

This 10-day escorted tour with Explore Worldwide starts and ends in Beijing, allowing time to visit the vast Tiananmen Square and the vast palace complex of the Forbidden City before heading out to the Wall itself. The journey begins at Laolongtou, where the Great Wall meets the Bohai Sea, and follows lesser-travelled and restored sections winding through hills and reservoirs.

Over six days, walkers tackle varied terrain, from steep stone steps and gravel paths to concrete slopes and wooden ladders. Highlights include a boat trip on Panjiakou reservoir that reveals sections of the Wall plunging dramatically into the water, and a chance to visit the Eastern Qing Tombs, resting place of emperors and their consorts. The walk finishes at Jinshanling and Simatai, areas where watchtowers stand sentinel and some parts remain in ruins, offering different perspectives on this sprawling fortification.
